01 Better Late Than Never

It has been in my mind to start blogging for a while, there have been so many changes in my life for the past few years, especially after graduation from NUS in 2013 May. I myself is also very curious how I think and how I behave, so I want to document it and come back to analyze it after a few years. Maybe there is a pattern that is interesting to understand in a deeper way. As it says, you can only connect the dots when looking back. It will be purely about how I think and the interesting things I do, as true as it is, and no markup.

I like one sentence, which I saw it during my last day in Techsquat Prague, from the office of the company the guys in Techsquat Prague founded, "whether you think you are right or you think you are wrong; you are right". I will talk about Techsquat in my later blog series.

Sometimes, this little wisdom that is down to the ground of human nature and touches brutally to the soul, which you just want to say, it is brilliant and right to the point. I do not know where is this from, but as a strong believer and executer of following your heart, adhering to the principles, this is what keeps me deciding what I am doing and why I am doing what I am doing most of the time. I am still exploring a lot to find more opportunities to break my limits of thoughts, to extend the limits of life and the value you could create to the world and the needed people in the world.

There is a buzz word called "refined egoism", in Chinese, 精致的利己主义, I am not sure whether I was part of this group a few years ago, but I did not recall I had done anything positively impactful for the people around. The media has been using this word to describe people that has been excelling in school and career, and will only spend time doing things that will create direct benefits to himself/herself. Actually this is very positive, if everyone in today's world will start to do this as a very high level of continuous self improvement, if everyone improves himself to the maximum level he can, the world will definitely be improving a lot.

The way how I define "refined egoism" is slightly more positive compared how the media defines it, there is nothing bad about it. But, it is not enough just to think about how to improve yourself, even in the good way. We need great people around us to look up in our life. We have to jump out of our horizon of just doing things that are benefiting you yourself directly, it is not just about you any more for whatever you are doing, it is about thinking of how much value you will create for others to live a better and more meaningful life.

There are  a few golden rules I have been following:

1. The only way you can help yourself truly is via helping others first in the way you want to be helped.

So in any case, if you are doing something with the objective to benefit yourself directly, you might not go far.

2. Doing what you love is not a luxury, all it takes is the courage to give up what others think are important and the courage to follow your heart faithfully. All the rest are excuses of your weakness.

3. You always have to stick to your principles. No compromise for any single time and keep doing only the right things.

The process of building is full of challenges that you have to deal with expectedly or unexpectedly, but the only thing you can control is yourself, making sure you always or at least most of the time feel right about what you are doing, and stop to analyze and reflect further when you feel something is not right.

At the end of this open post, let me add a disclaimer, all these are my personal thoughts for your reference only. If you find it useful, take it; or else, skip it for more suitable ones.
